A recent tweet published by the popular blockchain tracking service Whale Alert, which monitors hefty cryptocurrency transfers and then shares the details of them on its website and its X account, has spotted a massive Bitcoin transfer worth almost $120 million.
This transactions aligns with a 1.9% increase experienced by the Bitcoin price today. At the time of this writing, the world’s largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization value is changing hands at $106,690 per coin.
$117.8 million in Bitcoin shoveled as BTC gains momentum
The aforementioned on-chain data source detected a transaction, carrying 1,111 Bitcoins worth $117,797,259 from one anonymous blockchain wallet to another.
The crypto community reacted enthusiastically, posting supportive and excited comments under the tweet with the details of the whale transfer. Many commentators believe this transaction was made by the Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet – earlier today it was announced that this company had acquired yet another BTC chunk of 1,112 coins. Now, the company has reached the goal for this year earlier than planned.
Metaplanet holdings reach 10,000 BTC ahead of plan
Metaplanet, a Japanese company that has been copying Strategy’s Bitcoin playbook, has announced yet another cryptocurrency acquisition of 1,112 BTC today.
This BTC acquisition was made for approximately $117.2 million at roughly $105,435 per Bitcoin. Besides, the company has achieved a Bitcoin yield of 266.1% year-to-date in 2025. The announcement was made by the company’s CEO Simon Gerovich earlier today.
As of today, Metaplanet holds a total of 10,000 Bitcoins bought for a total of $947 million at $94,697 per BTC. This company’s BTC holdings have now surpassed Coinbase Global, which holds 9,267 BTC.
Earlier this year, Metaplanet announced its plans to hold 10,000 Bitcoins by the end of this year and then expand its crypto holdings to 21,000 BTC in 2026. The latter mirrors the total 21 million cap of Bitcoin.
On Sunday, Strategy’s executive chairman Michael Saylor issued an X post which traditionally precedes yet another Bitcoin acquisition announced weekly on Mondays. Later today, Saylor may again announce a new BTC purchase.
