In an unprecedented move, former U.S. President Donald Trump has become the inaugural American leader to sanction Bitcoin Lightning Network payments for campaign contributions.
Donald Trump Makes Historic Move with Bitcoin Adoption
The Trump campaign has allied with OpenNode, a premier Bitcoin and Lightning Network infrastructure firm, to facilitate these donations. Trump advocates can now support his 2024 presidential bid using Bitcoin through the Lightning Network, a technology crafted to enable swift and economical transactions.
“OpenNode is honored to collaborate with Anedot to integrate Bitcoin into the political donation sphere,” OpenNode declared in a communiqué to Bitcoin Magazine.
“This is the perfect combination of OpenNode’s leading Bitcoin technology stack and Anedot’s robust platform for political and non-profit organizations. “The Trump campaign’s adoption of our solution is a powerful testament to how political campaigns and nonprofits across the country can seamlessly accept Bitcoin donations.“
During his address at the Libertarian Party convention last weekend, Trump underscored his dedication to fostering a Bitcoin-conducive environment in the United States. He proclaimed that “the future of crypto and Bitcoin will be cultivated in the United States” and vowed to “champion the self-custody rights of the nation’s 50 million crypto holders.”
